June 11, 2001 - Burn The Sun - U.S. Situation
There has been a lot of requests about the release of "Burn The Sun" in USA. The album was scheduled for release in June through Sensory/Laser’s Edge. In the meantime, ARK has been approached by Steve Vai, who is co-founder of the record company Favored Nations. Contracts are now being drafted. We’ll let the owner of Sensory, Ken Golden, give us more details:
"Some news regarding the band's brilliant second album Burn The Sun: We had previously announced the North American release
for Sensory. Shortly afterwards the band was approached by Steve Vai's Favored Nations label who was interested in releasing
the album.
Although contractually bound to Sensory the band expressed their desire to sign with Favored Nations. We have nothing but a
friendly, positive relationship with the band and we agreed that Favored Nations would be able to provide ARK with the tour
support they badly wanted. A deal is being worked out that will free up the band to sign with Favored Nations.
This is a deal that works out well for all 3 parties (more of which will be revealed soon). We wish our friends in ARK nothing
but the best and hope that you will all buy Burn The Sun when it is finally released here."

23 October 2000 ARK. Studio Report A.R.K. is now in the Area 51 Recording Studios in Germany. Jorn Lande, John Macaluso and Tore Østby are in the middle of recording their second album “Burn The Sun”. Producer of the album is Tommy Newton. Joining the new line-up are Randy Coven (bass) and Mats Olausson (keys). Randy has recorded with artists like Steve Vai, Leslie West and Steve Morse, while Mats has been recording with Yngwie Malmsteen for the last ten years. These new members seem to be perfect versitile members for the A.R.K., since the band continues its path keeping the musical style with no boundries. “Burn The Sun” will be completed in November and is due for world wide release next year. The descriptions from the band´s point of view is that the record is a more in your face but still a collage of expression and emotions – a reflection of the members personality and state of mind. On the album you will find the signature of A.R.K.´s flavors of the first album, but in order to get across certain new sounds and moods, the band has been experimenting with some jungle-techno feels, some American Indian style chants, rhythm from the Mid-East and Eastern Indian counting and using very 70´s influenced but modern sound technology. With this album it will again be impossible to label the band. I feel it goes out to any emotional listener of music, from Metal and Rock to Progressive fans, and I even think the Pop radio listener will have some of these tunes in their heads all day long. An original band with a diverse style influence but a thread holding it all together to make it all make sence. Todd Polston
16 June 2000 A.R.K. is embarking on their second promotional trip to France, but this one will take them all through the country. Starting in Paris the 18th of June and ending in the South of France, Østby and Macaluso will stop in cities such as Lyon, Grenoble and Toulouse. The album is quickly becoming a very successful progressive album in this country. Setup are interviews, record signings and special appearances.
